Amish Laundry Work

    1. Hi Corey, they will usually move this to the basement or an enclosed porch and do the washing there in winter. I suppose it's nice to be able to do it outdoors in the nicer weather. But they will hang out the laundry no matter how cold outside. Sometimes under a front porch covering so that snow doesn't get on the clothing. As one Amish woman puts it: "We put them outside first, even if it’s freezing. Then, we have drying racks situated around heat sources in the house where we hang them after they’re frozen. Having been stiffly frozen on the clothes line gets rid of excess moisture so that the clothes won’t drip as much water in the house as they finish drying."
