Fastnacht Day is Today-

For the Amish, Easter season begins with "Fastnacht Day," known in most Christian churches as Shrove Tuesday. Fastnacht Day, the day before Ash Wednesday, is spent eating donuts and other rich foods in preparation for 40 days of Lent.
Many Amish bakeries prepare a large amount for customers.
Fastnachts can be also square in shape as shown in the bottom picture.
Traditionally, Fasnachts were made as a way to empty the pantry of lard, sugar, fat, and butter, which were traditionally fasted from during Lent.

Happy Fastnacht Day!
